Meet the Author

Nicole Evans Haumesser

Author, Puppeteer

Ever since I was a young child, I loved to lose myself in stories.  I started writing poetry at the age of 11, and in college, I wrote short scenes and monologues for my fellow acting students. Stage Theater was my passion, and I could get lost for hours in the play section of the local bookstore. I simply loved creating and imagining characters in various situations.

The idea of The One and Only Owen came to me after I learned a new fact about earthworms, but almost all my story ideas are rooted in real life or my life.  Owen struggles with his self-esteem just as I have. In Owen’s ALMOST Overnight Adventure, he has wrestled with how to balance his own needs and wants with the rules and given social expectations of his family and friends.  I wrote Genesis Goodwin is Always on the GO! while in yoga class, when I couldn’t turn my brain off and let go myself!  It’s been so wonderful to be able to continue to learn, grow, and change each year and with each new story.  Life is a continual process of change.  It has been an amazing decade spent exploring and letting the stories find me.

Keep your eyes and ears out for these upcoming titles:

Owen’s ALMOST Overnight Adventure! – The musical journey of Owen continues as he grows and begins to challenge the rules of the garden.  He wants the freedom he sees in other garden creatures such as Butterfly.  He, along with his friends, take a grand adventure, that does not entirely go as planned.  However, they do meet new friends and learn a valuable lesson about growing up!

The Day and NIGHT of the Double Dog Dare – Carlos and his best friend Jack make a dare – no, a DOUBLE DOG DARE that Carlos could spend the night ALONE in the woods behind his house.  But in the woods, at night, one is never really alone.  This descriptive tale allows readers to use their keen observation skills to help Carlos make it through a long and eventful night!!!

Genesis Goodwin is Always on the Go! – A story about an incredibly overscheduled young lady, Genesis, and the importance of slowing down to appreciate TODAY!

MY LIFE AS A STAGE - In this quick-paced poetic tale, you learn all about the “behind the scenes” skills and talents that take place prior to some of your favorite live performances! And you get all the inside scoop, from the one who should know the most - the STAGE herself! A fun and informative look into the various careers in the Performing Arts.

Meet the Artistic Team

Emily Harris, Puppet Creator & Puppeteer

Emily Harris earned a BFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. She enjoyed more than 20 years as a costume and puppet designer for film, television, and theater productions throughout Florida. Her association with Nicole Haumesser’s The One and Only Owen has always been a high point of her career. She was a member of the creative team that brought the original story to life. Emily designed the supporting cast of puppets (flowers, ladybugs, and bees) and built them right into her set. When the puppet show toured Clearwater elementary schools and other venues, she and Nicole got to be the first puppeteers. Emily even had a small vocal part in the original soundtrack!  She especially enjoyed igniting the imaginations of the young audiences at the post-performance talk back by demonstrating how the puppets were constructed from bicycle parts, plumbing supplies, hardware, and kitchen utensils! Emily is thrilled that The One and Only Owen will now delight and inspire even more children to become their best selves, find their unique voice and express themselves with confidence.

Jonathan Barnes, Musical Composer

Jonathan Barnes grew up in a musical home and has always been fascinated with the process of writing, playing and recording music. When he had the opportunity to write music for The One and Only Owen he jumped at the chance. Jonathan and his wife live in Nashville with their six children and a bunny named Boots. You can find more of his music on  Music, Spotify, and online at
